I don’t know if you read our post about the incredible guest we had a few months back that completed the LEED application for us after her vacation. This took us by surprise, and made us a little warm and fuzzy all over. Someone noticed that we care, someone saw that we are committed to sustainability, not just the environment, but a true well rounded sustainable development project.
Our guests rock and they continue to rock our world each and every day. We have a coffee on the beach in the morning, make a hand drawn map on a napkin that actually is their plan for the day and we continue to talk about stuff, cool and energizing stuff. We are intriguied as to where our guests come from and their story. We love to know why they are in Tulum and on the flipside, our Tulum guests are super curious how we ended up in a villa on the beach in Tulum in this super cool and unique environment.
Their experience at Casa de las Olas in Tulum fuels random acts of kindness like the completion of the Leeds certification application. Just recently a guest brought from home two great candles, a candle that represents the ocean and a candle that represents the sky. As we give to the planet in our own little way, people see it and give back to us and to others.
LEED certification and a sustainable random act of kindness
Honestly, I am not sure how many people know about LEEDS certification and the honor of this Sustainability certification. We hope that more people know about it and follow who is LEDS certified and make thier purchasing choices based on the information on their website. In case you are unaware, this is why we are so stoked about being considered for the Platnium level within Mexico.
1. Our intention was never to be seek certification, our intention is to work within the belief system of sustainability. The LEED certification process is a guideline for businesses that want to work towards sustainability and it is used as a model and educational system to encourage businesses to be sustainable. We did it without following the guidelines. We just beleive and wanted to make sure that our building and business developement was sustainable.
2. We scored high, very high, which for us means we met our goal of sustainable. Now, a goal is organic and is forever changing. The next step for us is to see what else we can do to be better and more efficient!
3. People are noticing. What we do is deeply ingrained in who we are. Noticed or not, we believe in what we do and how we do it. Being noticed is great, appreciation for many years of hard work and finding solutions that met our beliefs fabulous. Finding people who share a similar passion and mindset, super chido! Expanding our community to include more people who are interested, curious or right there with us in our belief system, awesome.
4. Others may follow. Once it is public that we are LEED certified, we hope that others may follow. We hope that the solutions that we have found will be adopted, used, copied or mimicked. We share and want to continue to share.
The fallout of our LEED certification in Tulum
So the certification is great, our score even more of a WOW! but we are more excited about the fallout, the inquiries, the community that will expandand grow. The future and building more solutions with others. That rocks our world and our world on the beach in Mexico where each and every day we do one thing to strengthen our sustainable practices and create a great place where people can share similar beliefs.
Check out our sustainable beliefs and some of our primary reasons why we are here on one of the most beautiful and adventous beaches in the world.
