We have had the pleasure of meeting lots of New Yorkers and East Coast residents that find Tulum Mexico a nice and easy getaway from the north. We are closely watching the aftermath of the storm that hit the East Atlantic coast this past week and want to share our hurricane experiences and thoughts with our friends and neighbors to the north.
Hurricanes are easy, the aftermath and clean up is where the challenge lies, but we have found that the aftermath is what brings people together in ways they thought were never possible. That is the beauty of a natural disaster, if you can find any beauty in any of this.
Dr Seuss got it right – Oh! the places you’ll go!
We are huge fans for life lessons, which may be one of the reasons we chose to live in another country. Dr. Seuss has written in his book ‘oh the places we go’ some wonderful life lessons that we like to reflect on each and every day. Though this book is generally given to graduates, preparing them for the adventures of life, Sandy the superstorm has brought on some adventures of her own and these great words of wisdom may be the refreshing words that can help all our friends on the East Coast face the day and go with the flow.
Here are some encouraging words from the book Oh! The places we go!
..And when things start to happen,
don’t worry. Don’t stew.
Just go right along.
You’ll start happening too.
OH!
THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!…
…I’m sorry to say so
but, sadly, it’s true
and Hang-ups
can happen to you…
…But on you will go
though the weather be foul
On you will go
though your enemies prowl
On you will go
though the Hakken-Kraks howl
Onward up many
a frightening creek,
though your arms may get sore
and your sneakers may leak…
On and on you will hike
and I know you’ll hike far
and face up to your problems
whatever they are.
You’ll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You’ll get mixed up
with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life’s
a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.
And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!

KID, YOU’LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!
So…
be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O’Shea,
you’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!
The East Coast will recover!
We know that the East Coast will recover and we know that every single person will do their best to work towards that recovery! WE have done it and will most likely do it again, it is not fun while it is happening but there is an end, really, really there is.
Oh! The places you’ll go! And when it is all over, you know you have a place to go!
