We have talked about having an electronic detox on your holiday, putting away your smart phone, closing the computer, turning off the phone and stepping away from those gadgets that we seem to gravitate to every second, it is not minutes these days, our addiction to our gadgets are now reaching the seconds not the minutes. What we love about Tulum is the electronic detox, but add in an easy physical detox and you will feel like a million bucks when you return home.
Use your vacation to alkaline your body as an easy detox method
Our bodies natural ph balance is 7.35 to 7.45, which is the optimal ph level for good health and a well-functioning physical body including organs, heart, thyroid, lymphoid and all physical body parts that make us, us. If you are below 7.35 to 0 then your body is more acidic, a state that can bring on complicated health issues. If you are above 7.45 to 14 then your body is alkaline, a state that is not as damaging as an acidic body but not in balance.
What makes your body acidic
It is easy to measure your ph level with ph strips that can be purchased at any health food store. It is best to measure your ph level at the same time during the day, morning is prefered and through a urine sample not a saliva sample. The foods we eat can create a highly acidic environment in our mouth, but not a clear indication of what is happening in your body. So here is the news, coffee, stress, alcohol, cigarettes, white starches, sugar and meats create an acidic body. Yup, those are the goods. Some foods create a more acidic environment than others, so you are not completely washed up, but these are the little culprits.
How to Detox your body while on vacation in Tulum
The good news is, fruits and vegetables, mainly very colourful fruits and vegetables help to bring a highly acid body closer to a balance ph level. Add local vegetables like spinach, brocoli, beets, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, garlic, onions and tomato and you have the basic mexican diet in a nut shell. COntinue to add condiments like chili peppers, cinnamon, garlic, coriander/cilantro and I am feeling a great pico de gallo coming on.
Mexican foods that will help to detox your body while on vacation in Tulum
If you choose some basic mexican foods for your lunch and dinner meals, have a tropical food salad with almonds and pumpkin seeds (pepitas) each morning and though hard to do on your vacation keep your alcohol intake to a minimum with fresh juices and green juices as your daily drink, you will be well on your way to cleaning out the acid in your body and getting well while you sleep, hang out in the ocean, tour the Mayan ruins and just take it easy.
If you are highly alkaline, and many people are tipping over the other end of the ph scale, party it up and drink more coffee, beer, alcohol and meat! Dig in to some great tacos, enjoy mexican corn, have lots of beans and rice and get your body closer to a balanced ph level then a highly alkaline level.Try some of Tulum’s more extreme sports like kiteboarding, cenote diving, scuba diving or climb the castle at the Coba ruins. Get your stress level up a bit and balance things out!

Try and find a freshly pick coconut, opened on the spot from one of the many coconut trees on the property at Casa de las Olas. Not happening in a store up north.
Vacations are a time to experience something new, open your world up a little bit more, take the daily routine out of the daily routine and in this case will start new rituals that are great for your body, and great for your soul!
